Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences

The College is so far the biggest unit in the system in terms of student population, faculty strength, and program offerings. Its mission is “… the holistic development of its student in various fields of Arts and Sciences making them physically intellectually, socially, and morally competent and equipped with competitive, scientific and technological skills responsive to the needs of society.” And the College of Arts and Sciences is unceasingly moving forward to achieve it.

The disciplines under the College of Arts and Sciences are Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geology, English and Literature, Filipino and Foreign Languages, Social Sciences, Computer Sciences, Criminology, Tourism, Mass Communication, and Office Systems Management each is headed by a Department chairman who assist the Dean in ensuring that the three functions of instruction, research and extension are carried out in the department effectively and efficiently.

PROGRAMS OF STUDIES

LIBERAL EDUCATION. The programs of studies in the College of Arts and Sciences are results of careful planning. They have been arranged and worked out to ensure that each graduate of the programs has developed in himself positive abilities to earn a living as well as acquire a good understanding of himself and his relationship with his fellowmen and the environment. Towards this end, the cultivation of the intellect and the faculty of reason are given due emphasis.

DEGREE COURSES. The College of Arts and Sciences offers academic and professional courses leading to the following degrees.

Bachelor of Arts (BOT Res. No. 3, 1993) with majors in English, Social Science, Mathematics, Mass Communication; BS Computer Sciences (BOT Res. No. 3, 1993); BS Criminology (BOT No. 3, 1993); BS Geology (BOT Res. No. 29, 1995); BS Office Systems Management (BOT Res. No. 14, 1996). BS Information Technology; BS Tourism (BOT Res. No. 4, 1996), BS Biology (BOT Res. No. 4, 1999); BS Chemistry (BOT Res. No. 4, 1999); BS mathematics(BOT Res. No. 4, 1999). Sciences and the State Scholar, the official organ of the NORSU system. The papers are intended mainly as vehicles for students’ opinions, independent research studies, and creative writing.
